Cornerstone Prison Church visit

May 25, 2018
By Lynn Wielenga

Fourteen Bethel members worshiped with the guys on “The Hill” at Cornerstone Prison Church on Friday evening, May 25. Most of us rode the bus and others took their vehicles to the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls.

We were met in the lobby by Jean Dyk, office manager for Cornerstone, who briefed us on protocol before we were led inside the walls. Inmates greeted us warmly when we arrived in the chapel and soon the praise team was leading us in “Amazing Grace/My Chains are Gone.”

Pastor Doug De Groot read from Esther 4 and preached “For Such a Time as This.”  We all find ourselves in “no win” (lose/lose) situations at times. But if we submit to God and go forward, we will witness His amazing providence in our lives.

The worship team enthusiastically played and sang “Break Every Chain” during the reverse offering…not a cash offering but putting in basket any written prayer requests for their small group to pray for this week.  About 80 men were present, many of them are “lifers,” who came to hear the words of life.
